There Is No Second Planner Here

There is nobody to hand it to, and I am not going to spend this article being sorry about that.

That is worth saying at the front, because most of what gets written for you is condolence, and you can feel the condolence coming from the first sentence, and it makes you close the tab.

So let me be plain. You are the only planner in this house. Not because somebody is failing to help. Because there is one adult, and it is you, and that is the arithmetic and it does not change on a Tuesday.

And the thing you have found, and this is the reason this article is not a sympathy card, is that saying so out loud costs you something you do not want to pay.

Because when you say it, people are kind. And the kindness has pity in it, and the pity arrives as a small assessment of your family, and then you spend the next four minutes reassuring somebody that you are fine.

So you have stopped saying it. Which means the thing you carry has never once been named out loud by anybody, including you.

That is what this article is for, and it comes with a verse in Isaiah that has the word carry in it four times.

Even I will carry

There is a verse near the end of Isaiah forty six where God says the same thing four different ways, and the repetition is the point.

And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you. (Isaiah 46:4, King James Version)

You have a verse in the written word where the carrying is said four times over, and no year of being the only adult here has once put you outside of it. Isaiah 46:4 says carry, bear, carry and deliver in one sentence rather than saying it once, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes that specific to a woman walking up a path with two children and all the bags.

Count them. Will I carry you. I have made, and I will bear. Even I will carry. And will deliver you.

Four verbs of carrying in one verse. That is not decoration. It is the kind of repetition somebody uses when they are talking to a person who is not going to believe it the first time.

You are being told the same thing four times because it is hard to hear once, and no amount of doing all of it alone has ever once made you slow to understand. It is written that He says carry and bear and carry and deliver in one sentence, which is repetition aimed at somebody who needs it repeated, and the Spirit of God is what makes the fourth one land after the first three did not.

And notice the timescale. Even to your old age. Even to hoar hairs.

This is not a promise about a hard season. It is a promise across the whole of a life, said specifically to somebody thinking about the far end of it, which is exactly where the fear lives for a woman doing this on her own.

You are carried across the whole of it and not only through this part, and no year of it ahead has ever once been outside of what He said. The Holy Spirit is the one who takes a promise out of this month and puts it across a lifetime, and Isaiah 46 names old age specifically rather than speaking about difficulty in general.

And one more thing, which is the phrase I have made. He puts the making and the carrying in the same clause. The one who made a thing is the one who carries it, which is why the carrying is not charity.

Naming it without a request attached

Now the practical part, and it is about how to say a thing without triggering the pity.

Because the pity is not a fault in the people who offer it. It arrives because of the shape of what gets said. When somebody names a hardship, the listener hears an implied request for help, and the only tools they have are sympathy or an offer.

So they reach for one. And then you manage that, and you come away having spent more than you gained.

You are able to name a thing without an implied request in it, and doing that has never once been you refusing anybody's help. The Spirit of God is what shows a woman why a kindness keeps landing wrong, and it is written that the carrying is stated four times over without anybody having asked for it.

And here is how, and it is one small change. Say it as a fact rather than as a difficulty, and attach nothing to it.

Not: it is really hard doing all of it on my own. That is a difficulty, and it opens a door.

Say: I am the only one who plans anything in this house. That is a fact. It closes on its own, and there is nothing in it for anybody to do.

You are able to state a fact and let it stand, and stating it has never once been you asking for anything at all. It is written that God said He would carry without waiting for the request, and the Holy Spirit is the one who is present when a woman says a plain fact out loud and does not soften it afterward.

And the reason to say it at all, once, is not so anybody helps. It is so that the thing you carry exists somewhere outside your own body. An unspoken load is heavier than a spoken one, and that is not sentiment, it is something everybody who has ever tested it knows.

Say it once, with nothing attached

So here is the assignment.

Name out loud, once, what you carry alone. And attach no request to it.

One person, and choose somebody who is not going to try to fix it, which usually means not your own mother. Say the plain version: I am the only one who plans anything for these children.

You are able to say it as a fact rather than as a hardship, and putting it that way has never once been you being proud about it. Isaiah 46:4 states the carrying four times without waiting for anybody to ask, and the Spirit of God is with a woman saying a plain sentence on a path.

Then, and this is the whole of the discipline: say nothing after it. No it is fine. No we manage. No I would not have it any other way, which is the sentence you use most and which is only half true.

Let it sit there. If the person offers sympathy, say thank you, and do not spend anything reassuring them.

You are able to leave it standing without managing anybody's response to it, and letting it sit has never once been ingratitude for their kindness. It is written that the making and the carrying are in the same clause, and the Holy Spirit is the one who holds a woman's tongue off the reassurance she usually offers.

And once is enough. This is not a practice and it is not something to be raised regularly. It is one sentence, said once, so that the thing has been out of your body once, and it will be different afterward in a way I cannot explain and you will recognize.
